Because of meteorological conditions, the launch of the light launcher Vega was postponed. It is now scheduled for the night of 6/7 May at 23:06 hours (Kourou time), i.e. 7 May at 02:06 hours GMT and 04:06 hours Central European Summer Time. You can watch this major event for Europe on the ESA, Arianespace or Astrium websites.
The video transmission will start on 7 May at 01:45 GMT/03:45 CEST. This second Vega mission will be more complex than that of 13 February 2012 (the inaugural flight). It will carry two main payloads and will require five ignitions of the AVUM (Attitude & Vernier Upper Module) upper stage.
The payloads are: the satellite Prova V (Vegetation) built by Qinetiq Belgium for ESA and the Bureau de la Politique scientifique Belge (Belspo); the Vietnamese satellite VNREDSat 1A (Vietnam Natural Resources, Environment & Disaster monitoring Satellite) built by Astrium Satellites for the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST); and nanosatellite ESTCube from the University of Tartu in Estonia, that country’s first ever satellite.
EADS Casa Espacio developed the VESPA dual-launch facility which will be
tested during this flight. This launch will also serve to test new on-board
software developed by AVIO.

The Bureau had met to prepare for the CVA Council of Mayors, scheduled for 30-31 May in Rixheim, one of the 33 m2A communes, and in Mulhouse. As a prelude to that CoM meeting and continuing the m2A Presidency theme of "Citizens and Space", a discussion forum will take place on 30 May, in Rixheim’s Salle du Trèfle. One of a number of talks organised by the localRencontres de la Commanderie association, this forum will address "Practical applications of space research in our daily lives". It will feature speakers from space agencies, industry and universities. There should also be ample opportunity for members of the public to have their say.
